Botox for Hyperhidros

Hyperhidrosis is a medical term for excessive sweating. It means any unusual sweating, such as sweating when it is not hot. People who sweat extremely often come in with their clothes or their sweat. They do not work well for those with this condition.

Botox injections are a new treatment option for people with hyperhidrosis. You can become a Botox member if your sweating fails to improve with prescription antiperspirants. Botox is FDA approved for people who sweat excessively under their armpits. It can also be used “off-label” to reduce sweating in other areas, such as hands, feet, and face.

Botox works by blocking the nerves responsible for using your sweat glands. Usually, your nervous system opens up your sweat glands as your body temperature rises. This is how your body automatically cools itself. In people with hyperhidrosis, however, nerves indicate sweat glands are overworked. If you get Botox injections directly on your sweaty body area, your overactive nerves are impaired. When your nerves cannot show your sweat glands, you do not sweat. However, Botox prevents sweating only in certain areas where it is injected.
